The Smuggler
Brian Heder
A veteran Keys drug runner who looks like a beach bum and moves like a great white shark. Jason lives rent-free on his property, with certain obligations attached.
Brian Heder is one of several supporting characters officially confirmed on Rockstar's GTA VI website. Rockstar's bio opens with a contrast: he 'looks like a Leonida beach bum' but 'moves like a great white shark.' The studio describes him as 'a classic drug runner from the golden age of smuggling in the Keys,' meaning the era before enforcement tightened the net. He runs Brian's Boat Works & Marina and still moves product through the yard with his third wife, Lori.
His connection to Jason is practical. Brian lets Jason live rent-free on one of his properties in exchange for help with local shakedowns, with the standing expectation that Jason stops by for Lori's sangria occasionally. That arrangement puts Brian in the story as Jason's landlord and informal employer, the reason Jason is already embedded in the Keys underworld when the game begins. How the relationship develops as the stakes rise is unconfirmed until launch.
Stephen Root confirmed he voices Brian Heder in an AP News interview at the BAFTA TV Tea Party on September 14 2026, becoming the first member of the GTA 6 cast to publicly confirm their role. Root told AP News that the resemblance between himself and the character had already become an open secret: 'I think from the first rollout of GTA that they were doing maybe almost a year ago, they had my character in there, and there are too many people who knew me from King of the Hill and my voice! So I think that secret kind of got divulged then.' Root is known for playing Bill Dauterive and Buck Strickland in King of the Hill. Rockstar Games has made no official casting announcement.
