LOVE Magazine has made Grand Theft Auto VI the cover story of Issue 27, with official Rockstar artwork of Jason and Lucia on the front. The fashion and culture magazine reaches newsstands October 5, about six weeks before the game launches November 19. The feature comes with four new screenshots, including the pair in a diner, a pool hall scene, and a black-and-white portrait of the two together. LOVE spoke with Rob Nelson, co-studio head at Rockstar North, Rupert Humphries, senior vice president of narrative, and game writers Elizabeth Gauvey-Kern and Alexa D'Agostino. GTA BOOM and Beebom report that pre-orders for the issue sold out within minutes.
Vice's October 2 coverage quotes Gauvey-Kern saying the writers wanted both protagonists to be 'vulnerable, tough, flawed, right sometimes, wrong sometimes, able to learn from each other.' D'Agostino said that building a character around their own wants and desires gives you someone who feels 'perfectly imperfect,' per TechWiser. Lucia is described as the driven one, determined to build a better life, while Jason is more reactive, with his circumstances making his decisions more often than he does. Rockstar also describes Leonida as a 'pressure cooker for all kinds of insanity,' and GTA BOOM reports that the pair's version of the American Dream is modest: owning a home and getting out of debt, not building a criminal empire.
The LOVE Magazine feature is separate from the Game Informer Issue 382 cover story, which published digitally September 29 and covered the game's wildlife, weather systems, and side activities. GTA 6 launches November 19 on PS5 and Xbox Series X and S.
