GTA 6 Launches as Single-Player Only, Leakers Point to December for Online

Rockstar's pre-order materials describe Grand Theft Auto VI as a single-player experience, confirming November 19 ships without a multiplayer mode. Leakers say GTA 6 Online could follow in December 2026, though Rockstar has not confirmed a timeline.

The pre-order announcement on June 24 used specific language that settled the question. Rockstar's official product description across storefronts and press materials called Grand Theft Auto VI a single-player experience set in the biggest, most immersive evolution of the series yet. That phrasing ruled out online multiplayer on November 19. No GTA 6 Online equivalent ships with the game. Rockstar has not made a separate announcement about this; the store copy is the communication.

Rockstar held back the online component for both of its last two major releases. Grand Theft Auto V launched on September 17, 2013, and GTA Online arrived as a free update two weeks later on October 1. Red Dead Redemption 2 launched in October 2018, with the Red Dead Online beta following in late November. Both times, the studio gave players time in the single-player story before opening the multiplayer side. The gap was short by Rockstar's standards, but the pattern of shipping them separately is consistent.

The December window comes from leaker TheGhostOfHope, best known for Call of Duty leaks, who says Rockstar's current schedule has GTA 6 Online arriving within a month of the main game's launch, per RockstarINTEL. He also cautioned that nothing is set in stone. A separate leaker, DetectiveSeeds, claims a February 2027 window for the PC version based on conversations with Rockstar developers. Rockstar has confirmed neither date. Tweaktown also flagged that GTA 6 Online may be sold separately rather than bundled with the base game, pointing to the single-player-only store language, which would be a meaningful shift from how GTA Online worked at GTA 5's launch. None of this is official. Treat December 2026 as a plausible target from secondhand sources, not anything Rockstar has said.
