Piper Sandler Raises GTA 6 Launch Forecast to 48 Million Units, Up from a Previous Estimate of 30 Million

Piper Sandler analyst James Callahan has raised his GTA 6 launch sales projection to an average of 48.3 million units, nearly 20 million above his previous estimate and well above the market consensus of roughly 40 million. The revision follows a week when the GTA VI subreddit's weekly traffic hit 2.7 million users and Ampere Analysis counted more than 100,000 new Netflix subscriptions tied to the Extended Look.

Piper Sandler analyst James Callahan has raised his GTA 6 launch sales projection to between 48 million and 48.6 million copies, an average of 48.3 million, VGTimes reported on September 11. His previous formal estimate stood at around 30 million units. The revision puts Callahan's figures well above the broader analyst consensus, which VGTimes placed at roughly 40 million copies at launch.

The Extended Look, which debuted exclusively on Netflix on August 27, drove notable spikes on both platforms. Ampere Analysis counted more than 100,000 new Netflix subscriptions generated by the premiere, with more than 5 percent of inactive US Netflix accounts returning to watch it. On Reddit, weekly traffic to r/GTA6 rose from around 700,000 users in mid-August to 1.4 million following the Cyberleek clips in late August, then to 2 million immediately after the Extended Look aired, then to approximately 2.7 million in the week after, a 35 percent jump in seven days.

Pre-launch analyst projections are estimates rather than guarantees. Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive have not issued public sales targets for GTA 6. GTA 6 launches November 19 on PS5 and Xbox Series X and S; when GTA 6 Online will follow has not been announced.
