Xbox CSO Matthew Ball Denies Exclusive GTA 6 Cloud Streaming Deal, Ruling Out PC Access at Launch

The Verge reported on October 6 that Xbox CEO Asha Sharma told employees Xbox had secured exclusive cloud streaming rights for GTA 6 at launch, which was widely read as confirmation that PC players could stream the game on November 19. Xbox CSO Matthew Ball denied both claims the next morning, confirming the game is not streaming exclusively and is not available to PC players via streaming at launch.

The Verge's Tom Warren reported on October 6 that Xbox CEO Asha Sharma had told employees Xbox secured exclusive cloud streaming rights for Grand Theft Auto VI at launch. The story was read widely as confirmation that PC players could stream the game through Xbox Cloud Gaming on November 19 without owning a console.

Xbox CSO Matthew Ball responded on the morning of October 7. His statement: 'While the excitement for GTAVI and XBOX is great to see, it has also led to some misreporting. We are looking forward to launching GTAVI on XBOX November 19, though the game will not be streaming exclusively or to PC.' Pure Xbox, Push Square, Kotaku and Dexerto all covered Ball's response. Warren later said the situation 'appears to be more complicated than I originally reported,' per Pure Xbox.

Ball's statement closes the door on PC streaming at launch and on any exclusive arrangement. His phrasing leaves the question of standard, non-exclusive Xbox Cloud Gaming access for console subscribers technically open, but no such deal has been confirmed by Xbox or Rockstar. GTA 6 launches November 19 on PS5 and Xbox Series X and S. No PC release date has been announced.
