Former Rockstar Developer Jérémy Hartvick Says Porting GTA 6 to Switch 2 Does Not Make Sense

Jérémy Hartvick, who worked on open-world design for GTA 6 at Rockstar North from 2017 to 2020, says a Switch 2 port does not make sense because the GTA audience and the Switch audience do not overlap enough to justify it. He said a smartphone version is more plausible, because the technology for it already exists.

Jérémy Hartvick, a Rockstar North open-world designer who worked on GTA 6 from 2017 to 2020, addressed the Switch 2 question in a members-only Kiwi Talkz interview, reported by Dexerto on September 24. His position was direct: 'I don't believe it even makes sense, because I'm not sure the audience for GTA 6 is so much the audience for the Switch.' He extended the point to purchasing behavior: 'If you're a GTA fan, you would probably buy a console on which GTA will come out.'

On performance, he questioned whether it makes sense to 'go out of your way to probably deliver a subpar experience' on hardware so different from a PS5. His view on smartphones was more open: 'If they put their mind to it, you could be playing GTA 6 on your phone because that technology exists and it has been proven.'

Hartvick left Rockstar in 2020, so his read on a Switch 2 port is an informed outside view rather than current insider knowledge. Rockstar has confirmed GTA 6 for PS5 and Xbox Series X and S only. No PC, Switch 2, or mobile release has been confirmed. GTA 6 launches November 19.
