A 192GB Archive From the 2022 Rockstar Hack Went Broadly Public on September 18, Mostly GTA 5 Cut Content

A 192GB archive of Rockstar data from the 2022 Arion Kurtaj breach became broadly public on September 18, containing mostly GTA 5 cut content including a cancelled Liberty City expansion and cancelled single-player DLC. GTA 6 content in the archive is limited to early map blockouts that RockstarINTEL describes as over a decade old.

A 192GB archive of Rockstar Games data became broadly public on September 18, two months before GTA 6 launches on November 19. RockstarINTEL and Insider Gaming both reported the release the same day. The files trace back to the 2022 breach carried out by teenage hacker Arion Kurtaj, the same incident that produced the 90 GTA 6 gameplay videos. Per RockstarINTEL, the archive contains GTA 5 source code Kurtaj obtained before his arrest, along with fully built debug builds and menus from every platform the game shipped on. The files had been kept in hacking circles, away from the public, before going more widely accessible on September 18. Rockstar has not commented.

The bulk of what is in the archive concerns GTA 5 content that never reached players. Insider Gaming identified a cancelled Liberty City expansion with a map outline larger than GTA 4's version of the city. A cancelled single-player DLC referred to as 'Agent Trevor' is also in the files, with assets for a spaceship location with space suits and Franklin in a mansion with a huge underground space, per Insider Gaming. RockstarINTEL also reported cut vehicles, beta versions of shipped content, the 'Sharmoota Job' heist, and Franklin and Brucie Kibbutz dialogue that was cut from GTA 5.

The GTA 6 content in the archive is limited. RockstarINTEL found early GTA 6 assets loaded into GTA 5's engine, including map files described as covering areas like the Vice City Airport, and described the blockouts as over a decade old. Notebookcheck, also reporting September 18, said the GTA 6 assets are too incomplete to reveal much about the finished game, and called the archive the full version of the GTA 5 source code leak that partially surfaced in December 2023. Nothing in the archive represents the current state of the game. The Extended Look on August 27 was captured on a base PS5 and reflects a build several years ahead of anything here.
