The tribunal that was scheduled to conclude on October 16 has picked up two new hearing dates, November 17 and 18, which puts the end of the hearing one day before Grand Theft Auto VI launches. GamingBolt reported the extension on October 14, citing People Make Games' Chris Bratt, and Massively Overpowered followed on October 16, saying closing submissions had moved to November. Rockstar's lawyers requested more time to finish cross-examining former employees, and the IWGB's lawyers were also still finishing their questioning of Rockstar leadership. The judge granted the request.
The case concerns the October 2025 dismissal of 34 workers, 31 of them IWGB members, across the UK and Canada. The union argues the firings were meant to keep the IWGB below the 10 percent membership threshold for statutory recognition under UK law. Rockstar's position is that the dismissals were for gross misconduct relating to the sharing of confidential information in a Discord server. Earlier in the hearing, Rockstar VP of HR Rob Spampinato called the union's framing 'preposterous' and 'absolutely not true,' and Jennifer Kolbe, Rockstar's head of licensing, told the tribunal she was the ultimate decision-maker on the dismissals, PA reported.
No ruling has been issued. The case is in its cross-examination phase, with closing arguments now coming in November. GTA 6 launches November 19 on PS5 and Xbox Series X and S.
