Zelnick Requested His WWE 2K26 Cameo Himself, Then Ruled Out the Same in GTA 6

In an IGN interview published August 12, Strauss Zelnick confirmed he personally asked to be added to WWE 2K26 as a playable character and did his own motion capture for the role. Asked whether he would turn up in GTA 6, he answered 'You will not.'

When Zelnick turned up as a playable character in WWE 2K26's Season 3 update on June 3, rated 77 with 'My Way' by Frank Sinatra as his entrance music, it read like something the development team slipped in as a joke. In an IGN interview published August 12, he set that straight. 'How it came about? I asked,' he said. 'I wish I could say that there was huge popular demand internally and externally, but that would be a lie.' His actual reason: 'Because I love the title and I loved WWE, and I thought it would be funny for insiders and maybe fun for some consumers.' He went to the soundstage and did the motion capture himself. Insider Gaming reported the interview.

The same conversation turned to GTA 6. Asked directly whether he would appear in it, Zelnick said 'You will not.' No hedge and no wink about keeping a secret, which makes it the most direct answer he has given about GTA 6 content in a while. He offered no reason, and what he ruled out was himself, not celebrity appearances or casting in the game more broadly.

The contrast with the WWE cameo is the interesting part. WWE 2K26 gave him a 77 rating, a licensed Sinatra track, and a character built to look formidable. Rockstar's tradition is satire, and satire is not flattering. Real people who turn up in a GTA game tend not to come out of it looking better than they went in, which makes the same gesture a very different proposition for a sitting chief executive. GTA 6 launches November 19 on PS5 and Xbox Series X and S.
