Fully functioning bus and train systems run across GTA 6's Leonida, according to Edge Issue 430. Phil Hooker, one of Rockstar's heads of development, says he has memorised all of the bus routes.
Edge Issue 430, published October 29 2026, says GTA 6 has 'fully functioning bus and train systems.' Phil Hooker, who shares the head of development title and is responsible for driving the game towards stability, told Edge he spends much of his time waiting for buses, checking they arrive when expected and then riding them across Leonida. 'I'm obsessed with making sure they always turn up,' he said. 'I've memorised all of the routes.' Notebookcheck, also citing Edge, says buses keep fixed routes and schedules.
Public transit has practical uses beyond getting around. Beebom quotes Hooker on using a bus to shake the police: 'If they [police] didn't see you get on, and then you get out of the 'wanted' area, why would they search the bus unless they see you get onto it?' GINX, citing Edge's reporting, adds that riding transit spares you from worrying about fuel and vehicle damage, making it a complement to Ryde Me, the in-game rideshare app.
Transit is not new to the series: GTA IV had a subway with 26 stations and GTA V had a light rail line, per Notebookcheck. A fully functional bus network would be a first. Whether routes cover all of Leonida, what the fares are, and how boarding works are unconfirmed until launch.
