World Cup Winner Lamine Yamal Posted 'GTA VI' on Instagram, and Rockstar Liked It

Spain's Lamine Yamal posted a vacation photo on Instagram on July 31 captioned simply 'GTA VI.' It reached 5.55 million likes in eight hours. Rockstar liked it.

Lamine Yamal, the 19-year-old FC Barcelona winger who won the World Cup with Spain on July 19, posted a vacation photo on Instagram on July 31 with a caption reading only 'GTA VI.' Inven Global counted 5.55 million likes, 20,000 comments and 100,000 shares within eight hours of it going up, and the GTA 6 Countdown account on X clocked the first million likes inside half an hour. Neither Yamal nor Rockstar has described any promotional arrangement, and none of the coverage turned one up. Yamal is a known gamer who has named Fortnite and FIFA as his regular titles. Game Rant and Inven Global both covered the moment.

Rockstar liked the post. That is the detail that made it news rather than just a famous person being a fan. Rockstar keeps a low profile on social media and does not often engage publicly with organic content, so a like on a spontaneous, unpaid post drew attention. There is no sign Rockstar coordinated anything with Yamal or his team. The GTA 6 Countdown account on X put it plainly: 'This is why Rockstar doesn't need to release a new trailer.'

GTA 6 still has no third trailer and no gameplay reveal beyond two in-engine cinematics. Pre-orders have been open since June 25. The full marketing campaign has not started yet, and the organic pull the game already has is doing a lot of the work. A vacation photo captioned GTA VI by one of the most-watched footballers on the planet, with nothing behind it, generating 5.55 million likes in eight hours is a reasonable measure of where the game sits in the culture three and a half months before it ships. GTA 6 launches November 19 on PS5 and Xbox Series X and S.
